Meet the Guides

JPT Japan Tour Guide ~ Darren

 Darren ~ Tour Guide

My name is Darren, and after more than 14 years living in the Shonan area, I’ve developed a genuine boots-on-the-ground knowledge of Kamakura, its hidden corners, coastal paths, temples, cafés, and rich history.

Before returning to Japan to found 'Just Passing Through Japan', I worked as a sea kayak guide in Spain, where I discovered my passion for creating relaxed, memorable experiences for travellers from around the world.

For me, travel is about more than simply visiting famous sights — it’s about connecting with the culture, stories, and atmosphere that make a place truly unforgettable. Our tours are designed to go beyond the guidebook, blending Kamakura’s samurai history and spiritual heritage with the slower rhythms of everyday local life.

Whether we’re wandering through quiet backstreets, exploring ancient temples, or discovering hidden spots missed by most visitors, I hope to give you a deeper connection to this remarkable seaside city.

I look forward to welcoming you and sharing the beauty, culture, and spirit of Kamakura with you.

JPT Japan Tea Master ~ Harumi

Harumi ~ Licensed Tea Ceremony Teacher

My name is Harumi, and I have been studying the ancient art of the Japanese tea ceremony for more than 10 years. As a licensed tea ceremony teacher, I am passionate about sharing this beautiful tradition with visitors from around the world.

I welcome guests into a relaxed and authentic home setting, where you can experience the quiet beauty, mindfulness, and hospitality that lie at the heart of Japanese tea culture.

This is more than simply watching a demonstration — you will also have the opportunity to prepare and perform parts of the ceremony yourself under my gentle guidance, learning the movements, etiquette, and spirit behind this timeless practice.

From seasonal Japanese sweets to freshly prepared matcha, every detail is carefully arranged to create a warm and memorable cultural experience.

I look forward to welcoming you into my home and sharing the beauty of the Japanese tea ceremony with you.

JPT Japan Tour Guide ~ Duncan

Duncan ~ Tour Guide

My name is Duncan, and although I’m originally from Europe, Kamakura has been my home for the past 8 years. Over that time, I’ve fallen deeply in love with this unique seaside city, its history, culture, and relaxed way of life.

Living locally has allowed me to discover not only Kamakura’s famous temples and shrines, but also the quieter backstreets, hidden cafés, coastal walks, and everyday moments that many visitors never get the chance to experience.

For me, guiding is about creating genuine connections and helping travellers experience Kamakura beyond the typical tourist route. Whether we’re exploring historic temples, wandering through peaceful neighbourhoods, or stopping to enjoy the atmosphere of a small local café, I aim to create relaxed and memorable experiences that feel personal and authentic.

I look forward to sharing the stories, culture, and spirit of Kamakura with you, and helping you experience this remarkable city through the eyes of someone proud to now call it home.
